Simmental Herd Sires
JUNIOR HERD SIRES
- Kosmo was purchased in 2004 from Muirhead Cattle Co. with Swan Hills Ranch for $8,100
- the four brothers in that sale averaged over $5,000
- 1/4 Fleckvieh as he traces back to Flynn Simmentals' Konze cow
- selected as a "Peoples Choice" finalist at 2004 Canadian Western Agibition
- Kosmo covers a lot of ground easily as he bred more than 30 heifers and cows at Drifting M Ranch and then went on to breed at Swan Hills Ranch for their summer and fall programs
- very dense muscled, deep ribbed, and extra large scrotal
- his first calves to hit the ground averaged 78 lbs. on 16 sons, and 79 lbs on 12 daughters with extreme vigor
- they didn't stop there! Actual weaning weights averaged 810 lbs and yearling weights averaged 1260 lbs. (note: many of these calves were out of heifers, so their adjusted weights should be higher yet!)
DMR Skydog 24N
 |
Double Red
Triple Polled
Sire: Red Dog
MGS: Big Sky
|
- predictable genetics is our goal and reason for using Skydog
- his dam DMR 4G produced LP who sold to Double Bar D and walks as their homozygous polled black herd sire
- DMR 4G is also a maternal sister to DMR Heat who was purchased out of the first Red & Black Invitational by Soderglen Ranches
- Skydog has extra length, natural muscle, and deep maternal roots
- from a commercial standpoint, he will add extra pounds on those top dollar steers and still produce females that will out sell those same steers
- as seedstock producers, that is the ultimate goal to keep in step with the commercial cattlemans needs
